Milanda got the new season up and running with a useful workout against Premier Division opposition.Crosslands’ superior finess told in the end but Milanda gave as good as they got for a large part of the game, especially in the first half when they were twice ahead.
The score was 4-4 at the break, with Milanda’s goals coming from Colin Kelly (3) and Martin Johnstone. Kelly looked sharp and took his hat-trick ever so well, especially his first when he pounced after the keeper had failed to hold a ferocious shot by Greig Harley and his second when he latched on to a magnificent through ball from skipper Paul Murray.
The memorable moment of the second half came when Paul O’Donnell went on as a substitute to play alongside sons Ryan and Kyle.It was a unique family outing in the club’s history and the old man didn’t let his boys down. Some of the magic footwork was still there in central midfield and he was involved in Milanda’s best attacking move of the game which saw Kelly pass up the opportunity to take his personal tally to four.
All the Milanda players acquitted themselves pretty well after the summer hols, with Kelly, Johnstone, Murray and Ryan O’Donnell particularly impressive.
