William Drummond Trophy. Greenfield
Finnieston Park 8 AC Milanda 2
Scorers - Own goal, MacDougall
MILANDA suffered one of their heaviest defeats for years as their season got off to the worst possible start at Greenfield.
Skipper Kevin Grehan had to play in goal because neither of the signed keepers was available but that tells only half the story.
New team Finnieston were fitter, sharper and passed the ball much better and would have reached double figures but for some careless finishing and good saves by Milanda's stand-in No.1.
Three goals down at half-time, Milanda tried to push more men forward in the second half but a comeback never looked likely.
The first Milanda goal was scored by a Finnieston defender who steered the ball into his own net following a long throw by Paul Murray. The second was a cracking strike by Neil MacDougall from outside the box that gave the keeper no chance.
Man of the match: Kevin Grehan deserves recognition for volunteering to play in goal when no one else fancied it. He lost a couple of poor goals and was never given the defensive cover he deserved but made half-a-dozen excellent stops.
